Have you ever wondered why we obey authority figures or how we may develop certain phobias?

Psychology is a fascinating and challenging subject. It is the study of the human mind and behaviour. Psychologists are interested in factors that influence our development, perceptions and experiences.

Throughout this challenging course you will explore a range of topics that will give you a broad insight into the field of psychology, such as the impact of social influence on behaviour, how memory can be altered and manipulated and how phobias can be treated.

You will study:

Year 12

Introductory topics in Psychology – Social Influence, Attachment & Memory and Psychopathology.

Psychology in context – Approaches in Psychology, Bio-psychology and Research Methods.

Year 13

Issues and Options in Psychology – Issues and Debates, Relationships, Schizophrenia and Forensic Psychology


Assessment

At the end of year 13 students will sit three examinations, each worth 33.3%.


Careers/Further Education

Psychology is a popular subject at university, and you will have the opportunity to branch out in various areas such as Clinical Psychology, Forensic Psychology or Sports Psychology. It can also be used for a career in Teaching, Policing or Counselling. Psychology also helps you develop a number of interpersonal skills and transferable workplace abilities.
